Client was using straight DI vessels with minimal pre-treatment and without reverse osmosis (RO). The result was inconsistent water quality and no established specifications against which to measure. The only instrumentation provided by the vendor was a red/green indicator light, commonly used for general DI water needs with less stringent requirements. DI bottles had to be exchanged weekly which became increasingly inefficient and expensive as the operation grew.
Initially, Atlas assisted the client in selecting a water specification common to their industry. Then Atlas was commissioned to design a modular system that would accommodate expansion and reduce the frequency of bottle exchanges from weekly to quarterly by incorporating RO and other technologies, thus reducing their service costs. Other system features included: touch screen with PLC; twin alternating pumps with VFDs; DI manifold for high flow; resin trap; and final filtration. Heat fused polypropylene with socket welds was used for distribution.
The system, along with all distribution was performed by Atlas personnel with all required permits pulled.
The system is being maintained by the Atlas High Purity service department on a scheduled maintenance program.
